Summary/Blurb:
Ashlee Morrison suffers a tragic break-up with her fiancée when they discover that she is unable to bear him any future children. Unaware of her half wolf side, she experiences magic visions and nightmares. Her parents convince her that she is mentally unstable and force her to go through psychic evaluations and treatments.
Upon her father’s suggestion she takes a volunteer job at a zoo and discovers a wolf that is different from the rest of the pack. She finds herself drawn to this wolf and eventually discovers a family secret and a magical secret that will change her life.
Tristan, the third son of the royal wolf family is cursed with a spell from his demented father and ends up trapped in his wolf form. Unable to shift to human form, he is caught and contained in the wolf pen of a local zoo where he discovers his true mate, Ashlee. He convinces her that she is not mentally ill and to release him where he can return to his family.
On their journey to return him to Westervelt Island where the spell that is keeping him trapped in wolf form can be lifted, he also discovers not only did he find his mate but the woman that would save his family from his father’s spell.
Tristan reveals Ashlee’s family secret and they discover together the love and need they feel for one another. Will their love prove its strength and save them from the same horrible tragedy that infected his pack thirty years ago, or will his family suffer all over again?
Review:
Rebecca Royce managed to catch my interest with the shifter characters in HER
WOLF as well as allowed me to feel their anguish and loneliness. When I read about Ashlee and Tristan, I couldn’t help but feel I was right there with them. Royce kept me on the edge of my seat as the adventure with her shifters unfolded right to the end. The only flaw I saw in her writing is the reaction that some of her characters expressed when receiving life-changing
news. I'd prefer more realistic reactions to both bad and good news. Realistic reactions would make the story seem as if it really happened and strengthen it even more, including preventing me from pausing and thinking about what was lacking.
I always notice the writing style of authors in the way they describe their characters and the surroundings. Sometimes the author fails to show me the picture. Sometimes I have to re-read a sentence or paragraph. When I have to re-read, I inject my own descriptive details and imagine my own picture. This is not the case with Royce who projected a distinct and clear picture right from the very beginning. This type of writing style makes a story flow like a movie in my mind. For some reason, I am able to read these extremely fast.
Anyone who loves wolf shifters, adventure, and romance will enjoy this read. I look forward to reading and enjoying the rest of the books in this series.
